ABOUT THE PARADE

The 6th Annual March of the Toys Parade for Toys for Tots will be held on Friday evening, December 6, 2019 beginning at 7 PM, in Ball Ground, Georgia. Attendees to the parade are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy for the Toys for Tots campaign. Collection boxes for the toys will be available at City Park and along the parade route on Main Street.

Past parades have featured such participants as the Griswold Truckster that appeared in the 2015 movie “Vacation”, the Oscar Myer Weinermobile, Christian Fine Arts of Forsyth Marching Band, the Creekview High School Marching Band, a replica of the 1966 Batmobile, Scooby Do’s Mystery Machine, Atlanta Falcon Cheerleaders, the Georgia Tech Goldrush Dancers, the Georgia State Pantherettes, dance groups, floats, tractors, antique cars and much more.

Several Cosplayers, people who portray a fictional character by dressing in costume, have also participated in the parade. Some of the entrees have included Superheroes like Batman, Superman, Supergirl, Spiderman, Iron Man, The Flash, Batgirl, Batwoman, Wonder Woman, The Hulk, Power Rangers, Dead Poole, Mr. Incredible and Captain America, plus a host of villians like the Joker, Harley Quinn, Riddler, Catwoman, the Penquin, and Bane.  We’ve had princes and princesses too, like Elsa, Anna, Rapunzel, Flynn, Snow White, Cinderella and her stepsisters, Belle and the Beast, Tinkerbell, Ariel, and Alice from Wonderland. Others have included the Mad Hatter, characters from The Wizard of Oz, Davy Jones from Pirates of the Carribean, pirates, wenches, and many more. The Atlanta Ghostbusters and Star Wars characters from the 501st Rebel Legion and even R2D2 have come from a galaxy far, far, away to participate. After the parade, the Cosplayers gather at City Park so children can have their photos taken with their favorite fictional character. This is also the time when Santa and Mrs. Claus make their official arrival to the town. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be located on the stage at City Park for photos. Photos are absolutely free, so don’t forget to bring your camera.

The parade is one of the largest Christmas parades in North Georgia. “Last year’s estimate was that 5,000 people came out for the parade. I do encourage attendees to get to the event a little early,” said Tim Cavender, one of the coordinators of the event.

There will also be a vendor area, located on Old Dawsonville Road next to City Park, so attendees can do a little Christmas shopping and there will be food vendors to take care of your appetite, too.

“This is an awesome event that the whole family can enjoy,” added Cavender. To learn more about the event, go to out Facebook Page by clicking the icon below.
